Nursing Research:

QD1.  Discuss the characteristics and requirements that research tools should have on quantitative research to give validity to the study. Give some examples.

QD2.  Describe why you were to chose a specific method to select a sample over other methods. Defend the method you preferred.

Pathophysiology:

QD1. Digitalis (e.g., digoxin, Lanoxin) is often prescribed for patients with atrial fibrillation. A common precaution prior to digitalis administration is to take an apical pulse.

a. Based on your understanding of the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation, why is taking a pulse by palpating the radial or other peripheral artery insufficient?

If there is a difference between the apical pulse and the radial pulse, discuss why the decision to administer or hold digitalis is based on the apical pulse rather than the radial or other peripheral pulse. In other words, why is the apical pulse considered “more accurate” in this situation?

QD2. A 10-year-old patient has developed cardiomyopathy and biventricular heart failure due to radiation and chemotherapy treatments received for pulmonary neuroblastoma. He has tachycardia, has tachypnea, and becomes winded and exhausted with minimal exertion.

  1. How, if at all, would you expect the manifestations of this patient’s biventricular failure to differ from those in a patient with biventricular failure from a massive left anterior wall myocardial infarction (MI)?
  2. How, if at all, would treatments for this patient’s biventricular failure differ from those for a patient with biventricular failure from a massive left anterior wall MI?

Local health care organization

The purpose of this assignment is to gain real-world insight into how risk management programs operate within health care organizations.

Select a local health care organization where you can conduct an interview with an employee who is involved in risk management processes. This organization can be your current employer or a different health care facility in your community. Acute care, urgent care, large multi‐provider private medical clinics, assisted living facilities, and community/public health clinical facilities are all ideal options to complete the requirements of this assignment. Select an individual who can provide sufficient information regarding how their organization manages risk within its facility to answer the questions below.

In your interview, address the following:

1-Risk management strategies used in the organization’s risk control program, along with specific examples.

2-How the facility’s educational risk management program addresses key professional, legal, and ethical issues, such as prevention of negligence, malpractice litigation, and vicarious liability.

3-Policies the facility has implemented that address how to manage emergency triage in high‐risk areas of health care service delivery (e.g., narcotics inventories, declared pregnancy policies, blood-borne disease sector, etc.).

4-Challenges the organization faces in managing and controlling high-risk health care (e.g., infectious diseases, nuclear medicine, abortion, class 4 narcotics/opioids, etc.).

5-Strategies the facility utilizes to monitor, evaluate, and maintain compliance within its risk management program.

After conducting the interview, compose a 750‐1,000 word summary analysis of the interview that includes the questions above, in conjunction with the interviewee’s responses. In addition, include the following elements in your response:

1-An assessment of the organization’s risk management program, including how it attends to high-risk health care and legal concerns.

2-Action steps you would take to improve one area of the organization’s risk management program, along with your rationale for doing so.

Cite appropriate references as needed to support your statements and rationale.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

1- Describe one of the safety committees your organization uses and how it reduces risk within your organization. Who are the general members of the group, how often do they meet, and is there a regulatory requirement that they report or publish notes? Is this a good use of the staff’s time or would another method that still addresses the safety goal of this group be more efficient?

2-The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), and the Joint Commission (JC) require that health care organizations maintain risk management programs to address infection control. Detail three measures that your health care organization (or any health care organization) could implement, beyond what is currently in practice, to support the delivery of safe health care services and avoid the spread of infection (e.g., placing hand washing devices at all of the public entrances of the health care facility). Support your response with a minimum of two peer-reviewed references.

Assessing and diagnosing patients with PTSD

Fear,” according to the DSM-5, “is the emotional response to real or perceived imminent threat, whereas anxiety is anticipation of future threat” (APA, 2013). All anxiety disorders contain some degree of fear or anxiety symptoms (often in combination with avoidant behaviors), although their causes and severity differ. Trauma-related disorders may also, but not necessarily, contain fear and anxiety symptoms, but their primary distinguishing criterion is exposure to a traumatic event. Trauma can occur at any point in life. It might not surprise you to discover that traumatic events are likely to have a greater effect on children than on adults. Early-life traumatic experiences, such as childhood sexual abuse, may influence the physiology of the developing brain. Later in life, there is a chronic hyperarousal of the stress response, making the individual vulnerable to further stress and stress-related disease.

For this Assignment, you practice assessing and diagnosing patients with anxiety disorders, PTSD, and OCD. Review the DSM-5 criteria for the disorders within these classifications before you get started, as you will be asked to justify your differential diagnosis with DSM-5 criteria.

To Prepare:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources and consider the insights they provide about assessing and diagnosing anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and trauma- and stressor-related disorders.
  • Download the Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation Template, which you will use to complete this Assignment. Also review the Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation Exemplar to see an example of a completed evaluation document.
  • By Day 1 of this week, select a specific video case study to use for this Assignment from the Video Case Selections choices in the Learning Resources. View your assigned video case and review the additional data for the case in the “Case History Reports” document, keeping the requirements of the evaluation template in mind.
  • Consider what history would be necessary to collect from this patient.
  • Consider what interview questions you would need to ask this patient.
  • Identify at least three possible differential diagnoses for the patient.

Complete and submit your Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation, including your differential diagnosis and critical-thinking process to formulate primary diagnosis.

Incorporate the following into your responses in the template:

  • Subjective: What details did the patient provide regarding their chief complaint and symptomology to derive your differential diagnosis? What is the duration and severity of their symptoms? How are their symptoms impacting their functioning in life?
  • Objective: What observations did you make during the psychiatric assessment?
  • Assessment: Discuss the patient’s mental status examination results. What were your differential diagnoses? Provide a minimum of three possible diagnoses with supporting evidence, listed in order from highest priority to lowest priority. Compare the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for each differential diagnosis and explain what DSM-5 criteria rules out the differential diagnosis to find an accurate diagnosis. Explain the critical-thinking process that led you to the primary diagnosis you selected. Include pertinent positives and pertinent negatives for the specific patient case.
  • Reflection notes: What would you do differently with this client if you could conduct the session over? Also include in your reflection a discussion related to legal/ethical considerations (demonstrate critical thinking beyond confidentiality and consent for treatment!), health promotion and disease prevention taking into consideration patient factors (such as age, ethnic group, etc.), PMH, and other risk factors (e.g., socioeconomic, cultural background, etc.).

The mark of a good leader is loyal followers

1 DQ 1

I believe every nurse is a leader, we lead care with multiple disciplinary groups at one time while taking on the role of an educator, an advocate, an encourager and support of multiple patients at one time. As a nurse we take on the role of leaders at all times. A nurse leader will be those who empower others (Grand Canyon University, 2018). A nurse leader is considered an expert in the healthcare field, to influence patient satisfaction and improve quality of care (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Proverbs 14:28 states “The mark of a good leader is loyal followers” (Grand Canyon University, 2018). Leaders are made through the influence a leader has on people. Leadership can influence ideas, common goals, and rules. Individuals follow you not because of a position you are in but because of who you are and how you influence them. Leaders are born, and through serving others one may be called to lead as well.

Management or manager is a person who is placed into a position to implement rules, regulations, meet organization goals, and to implement policy and procedures. Managers manage employees and organizations regulations. The five functions of successful management are: Planning, controlling, organizing, directing, and staffing (Grand Canyon University, 2018). A manager is chosen for the position they are in due to leadership skills, experience, work ethic, and possibly time at an organization, just because and individual is placed into a management position does not mean that they influence their staff to do better or be better. They are respected but influence comes with being a true leader. Managers are abe to influence upper management and those in higher up positions.

The goals of management and leadership overlap because they are both visionary and think long term. Both want to better the organization and employee’s growth. An example of this is on our unit we have a leader who have been on our floor for a long time and most nurses follow them and go to them for help. As nursing leaders, they assist in doing things correctly by teaching the nurses how to look up protocols and teaching them interventions that are evidenced based. They influence and many of these nursed become core RCs on our floors. Because their leadership goals articulate with management characteristics. As a nurse leader you can take advantage of this overlap to facilitate change by influencing those around you for the change and then implementing the change as a m

anger. From experience many the core RCs on our floor manage but lead us by implementing regulations but teaching and educating on why these changes are important. They jump in during rough times because they know what to do and lead during rough times while implementing rules and regulations.

Describe the difference in roles between leadership and management. Explain how the goals of management and leadership overlap and provide one example. As a nurse leader, describe how you can facilitate change by taking advantage of this overlap.

Using 200-300 words APA format with at least two references. Sources must be published within the last 5 years.
