Identify at least one area where their persuasive message may be improved

Discussion 1 Instructions

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 7Chapter 8, and Chapter 12 from your textbook; the Week 3 Weekly Lecture, the article The Challenge of Exceptional Communication; and the University of Arizona Global Campus Writing Center web page for Argumentative Writing (Links to an external site.).

Review the writing techniques on the Argumentative Writing (Links to an external site.) page and, using a minimum of one scholarly source from the library, write a two to three paragraph (150 to 200 words) persuasive statement explaining why your university is a good place to earn an education. Consider your audience as other adult learners and prospective adult learners. You can choose to craft a statement useful to all prospective students, focus on an academic discipline, or another important aspect of your college experience. Make sure your introductory comments clearly identify your target audience.

Guided Response: Review several of your peers’ posts, responding to at least three of them by Day 7. Respond substantively to at least three classmates throughout the week. Address the following in your post:

  • Identify at least one area where their persuasive message may be improved.
    • Describe how you would convince your classmates professionally and effectively to consider your suggestion.
  • Include a minimum of one scholarly and/or credible source in your reply that defends your position.

Discussion 2 Instructions

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 from your textbook and the Week 3 Weekly Lecture.

Write about an example of communication that could be improved by applying the visual design principles you read about this week. The communication can be any medium—a web page, a magazine ad, a promotional email, an illustration from a report, etcetera—as long as you can display it in the discussion forum. To attach a file to the discussion forum, select the “Attach” button in the bottom left-hand corner when creating a discussion response.

In your post, identify the visual weaknesses and describe ways to fix them. Explain why the message is not as effective as it could be and how your suggestions would make it more effective.

Discuss Investing in Education and Training Programs

1. Investing in Education and Training Programs: Do you think employers will continue to invest in education and training programs for their employees? Explain your position. Information on this is provided in Chapter 11.

2. https://youtu.be/-xyAv1Ud-x4

You represent Dyno-Mite Demolition Corporation in its negotiations with union representatives regarding a new, comprehensive agreement.    While you are able to agree on most issues, there seems to be no meeting of the minds when it comes to the role of seniority in your company.    You have been instructed to minimize or eliminate any role for seniority, while the union wants seniority to play an important part in any decision regarding employment.   You believe you have reached an impasse and would like to break off negotiations on this point.

“Seniority” is present day “hot button” issue.   Using the hypothetical as background, why might “seniority” be such a difficult issue to resolve?

3. Priscilla, 18 years old, was just hired to be a 20 hour a week cashier at Goodies Grocery.  Goodies is an “agency shop/union security agreement?”   Do you believe it is fair or unfair that Priscilla, who does not want to join the union, must still pay an “agency fee? “

Overview

Organizations invest millions of dollars in training programs, and organizations want to see a positive return for the money spent. As a result, training and HR managers, like Ryan, are increasingly being asked to justify their expenses and demonstrate how training dollars increase the organization’s bottom line. The problem is that some benefits derived from training can be intangible and difficult to quantify. How do you measure and put a dollar value on increased morale or better teamwork? Evaluation and analysis give trainers an opportunity to go back to the beginning and assess the results of the training cycle. (Gusdorf, M.L., 2009).

While developing and analyzing training evaluation data can be complicated you are up for the task. Your work with previous clients has shown you are highly skilled at evaluating the training programs you develop. You also have the ability to provide your clients with ROI that they can see and understand in clear and concise terms. With this in mind, you stretch and grab your favorite afternoon beverage. You are ready to begin work on your client’s training evaluation instruments.

determine effective strategies to help us affect follower behavior in a positive way.

As you begin to write your Mid Term, please give thoughtful consideration to the concepts presented in MC4401 thus far. In addition, keep in mind that this assessment will measure the following student learning outcome: Analyze and describe the nature of followers and the challenges that accompany change. Please use the attached Mid Term Template.docxPreview the document. Save a copy to your computer and type directly into the template (as it contains the required sections and is already formatted according to the requirements). I have also made some comments that will be very helpful to you when getting started.

Audience:

Even though I (your instructor) may be your actual audience (i.e. the only person who reads you paper), I (your instructor) am not the intended audience. Do not write your paper with me in mind, knowing that I have the knowledge to “fill in any gaps.” Your intended audience consists of aspiring leaders who have never successfully led a change initiative and know very little about doing such; therefore, you should write very clearly and concisely while understanding that “gaps” will likely lead to confusion. Your intended audience, in other words, is uninformed on this topic.

Length:

1200 – 1500 words (roughly 3 – 5 pages 12 point Times New Roman font, not including cover page and references)

Required Sources:

Cite a minimum of 2 sources (preferably journal articles but books are acceptable). The textbook for this course cannot count toward the minimum; however, it can be used.

Leading Change:

All organizations are complex, unpredictable and deceptive, at least to some extent. And the larger the organization, the more complexity is present. As leaders, we need to fully understand our organizations and the responsibilities that come along with our roles as leaders. Once we achieve a comprehensive understanding we can be much more effective in our efforts.

One inevitable part of our jobs as leaders involves the process of change, and leading such initiatives successfully requires that we understand the nature of followers and the challenges that accompany change. Implementing change is by far one of the most difficult challenges leaders face today. Unfortunately, the majority of people just do not get excited about change in the workplace. Getting out of one’s comfort zone is simply undesirable; therefore, change is resisted. But as leaders, there will undoubtedly be times when we must react to external forces and implement change within our organizations in order to remain competitive. We don’t have to look back too far in time to find examples of the need for change. Consider the Great Recession that occurred between late 2007 to mid 2009. Organizations of all types and sizes had to find ways to reduce costs, generate new sources of revenue, and increase efficiency amongst other things. I’m sure you would agree that leadership was paramount to the survival of US businesses that had no other choice but to change during this time.

The bottom line is that leaders must be change agents and motivate others to accept the fact that change is necessary. Thus, as aspiring leaders we must determine effective strategies to help us affect follower behavior in a positive way.

Your Mid-Term assignment is to write a 3 – 5 page paper discussing a minimum of three (3) strategies leaders can take to make a positive influence on followers during times of change. Again, please use the attached template.

Describe Business Strategy MARKET ENTRY OVERVIEW

Today’s business environment is characterized by competitive intensity that requires innovative thinking and strategic decision-making competencies. As a business professional, it is essential that you apply the principles of design thinking and strategic decision-making to positively influence the effectiveness of a business in its markets. In this task, you will provide a market entry overview, using the following scenario.SCENARIOA U.S. fishing boat manufacturer is known throughout the United States for its innovative approach to product design, lean manufacturing, and responsive customer service since its start three years ago. The mission statement of the company is “We will provide the most innovative customer-driven design and growth in the industry.” The founders’ ideals for the company are described in the vision statement: “We will be the most sustainable company in the industry.” The company’s ethical statement that guides all conduct and decision-making is “We will make decisions that are sustainable for customers and the environment.”

The company’s founders have created an organizational culture of innovation. They have provided incentives for employees’ creative ideas and created testing laboratories where customers use the products and provide design feedback. The founders have also invited innovators in other industries, such as gaming and information technology, to improve on the designs. The founders have cultivated a company culture in which employees and founders are considered equal partners. The company structure is decentralized, and all employees can access the founders at any time for collaboration, shared decision-making, or relationship building. All company decisions are evaluated by all employees to ensure that everyone is committed to the decisions.

The company has identified an emerging global market opportunity in India for its products. Successful sales in India could represent a critical moment for the company if the company establishes strategic partnerships that will increase the likelihood of product success. The founders hope to capture profits and market share and expand into other parts of Asia within the first year of selling products in India.

Research indicates market potential for the company’s sales in India because of the importance of the fishing industry in the country. Fishing and aquaculture are primary industries in the coastal regions of India. Economic zones have been established to support the over 14 million people who are an important part of the fishing industry. This industry makes up 1% of the nation’s gross domestic product and 7% of global fish exports (Hanko Hackberry Group, n.d.).

The company’s goal of the market expansion into India is to be the first foldable fishing boat manufacturer reaching the country. An origami-inspired foldable fishing boat is the company’s most popular product. This boat comes designed as a plastic carrying case that unfolds into the water like an origami paper boat. This boat is suitable for uses in calm water, and the boat can be recycled. The product retails for U.S.$200.

Traditional fishers use nonmechanized boats, which would be ideal for the foldable boat’s entry into the market. Laws and regulations surrounding the use of nonmechanized boats favor importing foldable boats, which would be easy for fishers to carry from home to the water. The business climate in India is open to new partnerships to improve the fishing experience for those who preserve the natural ecosystem with nonmotorized boats. The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) promotes the use of natural fishing equipment to reduce disruption to the fishing ecosystem in India (National Fisheries Development Board, n.d.).

The U.S. boat manufacturer’s founders met with the NFDB to request an endorsement for their foldable boats because of the product’s sustainable design and net-zero environmental impact. The founders discovered that the NFDB would only endorse the boat if it was made of plastics used in India, in order to reduce the waste products in the nation’s landfills.

This endeavor would require the U.S. company to make a significant investment in India. The company would need to purchase or build a manufacturing facility, or it would need to contract with a facility owner to secure a manufacturing location. It would need to employ Indian workers. Lastly, the company would have to manufacture a new foldable boat made from used plastics in India with an environmentally friendly waterproof coating.

The new foldable boat could be designed in several ways, and the company would need to test a series of paper products and waterproof coatings to determine which would be suitable for fishers in India. The fishers range in age from 13 to 70, so the design would need to be comfortable and portable enough for all fishers in this target group.

The company decides to hire Indian fishers to help design the product to reach this market. These fishers will provide qualitative, open-ended conversations and data that will be valuable in communicating the product’s features and benefits to other fishers. The product will be tested by a variety of fishers that represent different sectors of the fishing industry, different regions, and different cultural segments. Testing will provide generalizable, qualitative data about the product use and effectiveness.REQUIREMENTS
