Are your responses tinged with cognitive bias?

Required Resources
Read/review the following resources for this activity:

  • Textbook: Chapter 16
  • Minimum of 1 scholarly source (in addition to the textbook)

Introduction
Facione & Gittens (2016) state, “Strong critical thinking about complex and difficult social policies demands that we respect those with whom we disagree” (p. 344). The authors of your text ask us to take seriously the points of view of those with whom we disagree.

  • Should I respect the point of view of a misogynist – a person who dislikes, despises, or is strongly prejudiced against women?
  • Should I respect the point of view of a racist?
  • How about someone who believes marriage is only between one man and one woman?
  • How about someone who does not believe that humans are contributing to the conditions that cause climate change?
  • How about someone who denies that the Holocaust occurred?

Initial Post Instructions
For the initial post, pick one point of view from the five questions above that you find particularly repugnant – one that you think is completely unjustifiable. If you were in conversation with such a person, how could you ethically respond to the statement of such a point of view? Keep in mind that you are expressing a value opinion, which requires ideological reasoning, so you may want to review Chapter 13.

As you form your response, keep in mind the following; these are things you need to think about but not necessarily to write about in your initial post:

  • Reflect if you are using System-1 or System-2 thinking? Are your responses tinged with cognitive bias?
  • Do you think there is a qualitative difference between believing some races are inferior and the belief that marriage should only be between one man and one woman?
  • Do you think there is a qualitative difference between not believing in human contribution to climate change and not believing in the Holocaust?
  • Minimum of 2 sources cited (assigned readings/online lessons and an outside source)
  • APA format for in-text citations and list of references

Outline how you would design an employee performance appraisal system for your organization.

Outline how you would design an employee performance appraisal system for your organization.

Assignment Content

  1.     Use the job description from the individual assignment in Week 2 to complete this assignment.

Write a 1,050- to 1,400-word paper in which you cover the following:

    • Outline how you would design an employee performance appraisal system for your organization. It must be a comprehensive system, not simply an annual written evaluation.
    • Using the job description, discuss how the work described would be evaluated using your proposed performance appraisal system. Are you looking for behaviors? Results? Can the work described be quantified? How can “intangibles” such as “provide good customer service” be measured?
    • Justify your responses with support from your textbook, peer-reviewed research, and other sources.

Format your assignment according to APA guidelines.

Evaluate relevant and valid research

Write an outline of your research paper. Refer to Topic 7 for details regarding the Research Project due at the end of Topic 7.

Your outline should be 500-750 words, not including the required APA-formatted reference page and cover page.

Use the following as a guide to your research:

  1. Affirm your thesis on the approved personality psychology topic you have selected. Why is it important?
  2. Evaluate relevant and valid research that reflects the ethical standards in the discipline of personality psychology.
  3. Relate the concept to personality development.
  4. Utilize research to validate your ideas and supporting claims.

The instructor will provide feedback with the expectation that feedback is incorporated into your final research paper due at the end of Topic 7.

Use only peer-reviewed, scholarly sources.

This assignment uses a scoring guide. Please review the guide prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

You are not required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite.

Describe how you would plan to establish a foundation of understanding to create a relationship with the community members at odds with one another.

Describe how you would plan to establish a foundation of understanding to create a relationship with the community members at odds with one another.

Imagine that you have received a grant to study a community or population that is culturally different than the dominant culture in the community. Members of the community misunderstand one another, creating a conflict. Describe how you would plan to establish a foundation of understanding to create a relationship with the community members at odds with one another. Explain how you would conduct the research and how you would include the community in making the specific research decisions.

After you have read chapters 3 and 4 you will be able to respond to the following questions. Create your response into a word doc using APA format with a minimum of 550-750-word count. Include in text citations which will connect to the factual points from the article and/or textbook, and include the reference citations at the end of the document. select a person whom you believe had significant influence (positive or negative) on a movement for social, economic, and/or political change in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Course Project:

Introduction
For this project, select a person whom you believe had significant influence (positive or negative) on a movement for social, economic, and/or political change in the 20th and 21st centuries. Explore and address the following in your project:

  • Summarize the person’s ideas.
  • How did the ideas or changes affect the establishment      and status quo?
  • What was the context in which this person proposed      ideas/change?
  • How did the government or the people respond to the      ideas/change?
  • What sort of following or support did he/she have?
  • How have the ideas/actions of the person influenced      contemporary cultures and ideas?

For the final presentation, make sure to go beyond the surface information and go into depth about the person you are researching.

Here is a brief breakdown of the project:

PART ONE: Topic Selection

Required Resources
No specific resources are required for this activity. Conduct general research and/or skim the textbook to help you select a topic.

Instructions

  • State the topic.
  • For the stated issue, identify at least three (3)      aspects of the issue that you think you will likely develop in your      presentation. Briefly state why you have chosen each aspect.

You are not confined to three aspects only, but you must develop at least three. As you develop your presentation, you may find other aspects that you deem more relevant, and you may add or substitute those.

Writing Requirements (APA format)

  • Length: 1-2 paragraphs
  • 1-inch margins
  • Double spaced
  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Title page
  • References page (as needed)

PART TWO; Annotated Bibliography

Instructions
Now that you have selected a topic for your final presentation, this week you will need to construct your annotated bibliography using APA style. For this assignment, you need to select a minimum of 8 sources that you plan on using for your presentation and then construct the annotations for each source. The concept of constructing a bibliography is certainly not new for most students, but you may not be as comfortable adding annotations to the bibliography entries.

After you select a source and reference it in APA format, construct the annotation for the source. The annotation is really just answering a few questions about the sources itself and once you answer these questions this part of the assignment almost creates itself. Answer the following 6 questions for each source:

  1. Main purpose of the source
  2. Intended audience for the source
  3. Relevance to your topic (or explain why it was not      relevant to your topic)
  4. Author’s background and credibility
  5. Author’s conclusions or observations
  6. Your conclusions or observations

Writing Requirements (APA format)

  • Length: 3-5 pages (not including title page or      references page)
  • 1-inch margins
  • Double spaced
  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Title page
  • References page (minimum of 8 scholarly sources)

PART THREE; Presentation Script

Instructions

Minimum of 8 scholarly resources (These are from part 3 Annotated Bibliography. Conduct additional research as needed.)

The next step in the course project is to develop a script that you will use to record the narration for your presentation. Include headings for the slide number. Your final presentation should have 5-8 slides (not including title slide, conclusion slide, or references slide). Here are a few tips:

  • Address all requirements for the content.
  • Balance the amount of content for each slide. If there      is too much content on one slide, try to break it up into two slides or consider where you can be more concise with your wording.
  • Include citations where needed (e.g., quoted material and paraphrased/summarized ideas from a source that are not common knowledge). Note: When you get to the recording phase – you will need to      read your in-text citations aloud, but you do not need to read your    references slide.

Writing Requirements (APA format)

  • Length: minimum of 3 pages (not including title page or      references page)
  • 1-inch margins
  • Double spaced
  • 12-point Times New Roman font
  • Title page
  • References page (minimum of 8 scholarly sources)

PART FOUR; Narrated Presentation

Instructions
The final step in the course project is to develop the presentation with audio narration.

  • You may use PowerPoint or another method (mp4 file)      approved by your instructor.
  • Deliver the presentation in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Include parenthetical in-text citations support observations made in the presentation. Make sure to read the citations when recording your narration. Do not read the references slide.

Presentation Requirements

  • Length: 4-6 minutes narrated presentation
  • Slide length: 5-8 slides (not including title slide,  conclusion slide, or references slide)
  • Title slide
  • Conclusion slide
  • References slide (minimum of 8 scholarly sources cited  in APA format; not narrated)

Summarize a Community Action Proposal

Community Action Proposal Assignment Instructions

Imagine that you, and a few others who have a passion for community awareness and intervention, have been given a 4 million dollar grant to establish a program, center, or organization. This assignment can be a proposal for a marginalized population within your community whose mental health needs have been overlooked or ignored by service providers. The proposal can take the shape of a “Community Action Plan” that you and an interest group would present to the county commissioner or city council, or it can take the shape of a “Proposal for The _______ Center”, in which you describe the population, current issues, needed services, a proposed program, a rationale, a budget, etc. for potential consideration by an interest group, committee, or funding organization.

This must be a 12-15 page paper in current APA format with 12sources. You must incorporate the June & Black and the Scott & Wolfe texts in substantial and meaningful ways and draw on recent journal articles, particularly for the needs analysis, assessment, and program objectives. A minority of your sources may be professional sources that shed light on the issues at hand. Include the following content, using the bold outline headings below as your paper headings, substituting your program/center/organization where appropriate

Explain Statics For Psychology

The Lab Project poses the question, “Is there a relationship between frequency of church attendance and the level of understanding of basic Christian doctrine?” For your first Discussion Board Forum, read the excerpt from Quarles (2011) in the Lab Project Excerpt document, located in the Reading & Study folder of this module/week. Then, respond to the following prompts:

  1. Summarize the excerpt in several sentences. Include in your summary a list of the main Christian doctrines that students are failing to understand.
  2. Think about the research question, “Is there a relationship between frequency of church attendance and the level of understanding of basic Christian doctrine?” In order to conduct a study, a psychologist must first establish the null and research hypotheses that will guide the research design and data analysis. (The types of hypotheses are reviewed in Module/Week 1.) Based on the given research question and your reading, state a null hypothesis and a research hypothesis (otherwise known as an alternative hypothesis) for the Lab Project.
  3. Share your thoughts; based on your own opinion, what do you predict the results of such a study might be?

Explain Reciprocity

For this chapter, instead of a survey, there is an assignment.

Indicate which of the examples on the bottom of the page match with the influence principles listed. There are two examples that match with each principle. Write the corresponding letters next to each principle.  (no need to include the entire text, just the letters)

Match these influence techniques with the examples below (2 for each)

1. Foot-in-the-door

  1. Door-in-the-face
  2. Scarcity
  3. Reciprocity
  4. Low-balling
  5. That’s-not-all-technique
  6. If you give someone a favor, they tend to feel indebted to you. They want to pay you back somehow.
  7. A professor asks students to help move boxes of books from the office building to the library. After the students agree, the professor reveals that the students must arrive on campus at 7:30 A.M. to help.
  8. “Can you wear a button about the importance of recycling?” Once the person agrees, you ask “would you be willing to volunteer at the local recycling center?”
  9. If you purchase $50 in makeup, you will receive a full-sized mascara for free.
  10. If you mow your neighbor’s lawn while he’s on vacation, maybe he’ll watch your pets while you’re visiting family at Thanksgiving.
  11. Offer products or services at a bargain price in order to first attract a buyer, but then inform them about additional expenses that make the purchase less of a bargain than originally thought
  12. People fill out a form and provide an email address, a name, a phone number, or other information. This can then lead them to greater commitment later on.
  13. You tell interested car buyers that you only have five left of the newest sedan.
  14. Tell people at the restaurant that the kitchen will close in 20 minutes and this is the last call for orders.
  15. Can you please give me $100? No? Okay, how about $50?
  16. A boss asks an employee whether she can attend all Saturday meetings this month. Once she says no, he asks whether she can at least attend one Saturday this month?
  17. If you buy this mop, you will also get a mop cleaner.

Describe three protected classes and the laws that exist to protect them.

Describe three protected classes and the laws that exist to protect them.

There are various federal and state employment and labor laws protecting both employees and employers. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the federal agency responsible for interpreting, investigating, and enforcing federal employment laws against workplace discrimination. In Week 2, you considered the legal components in a job description. In Week 4, you analyzed forms of discrimination when conducting a performance appraisal. For this discussion, you will look at protected classes identified by the EEOC. Protected classes are groups of people with common characteristics that are legally protected from employment discrimination.

In your initial post,

  • Describe three protected classes and the laws that exist to protect them.
  • Explain how the EEOC investigates complaints of discrimination against a protected individual.
  • Discuss how employers can prevent and respond to allegations of employment discrimination.

Your initial post should be a minimum of 300 words and cite at least one scholarly source to support your response.
